Research Interests

I am currently enrolled in the Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) doctoral program at The Pennsylvania State University. As part of my program of study, I am learning about developmental research, theory, and methodology as it relates to the study of individuals and the contexts in which they live.

My substantive areas of specialization are adolescent civic development and prevention science. I am specifically interested in pairing these two areas of research to shed light on how adolescents come to understand their rights and responsibilities as citizens and to identify the developmental underpinnings of adolescents’ sense of personal and social responsibility. Moreover, I am interested in studying the extent to which civic values can be used to promote healthy choices and guide responsible behavior.
